Spring and Summer Stovetop Potpourri

I love the smell of different stovetop fragrances, and when I’m cleaning, it sets the mood for me to get into the cleaning spirit. These aromas are not just for cleaning, but I love how they make the entire house smell amazing within 30 minutes.

The thing about stovetop potpourri is that you can use many fruits, spices, flowers, and oils to create fabulous blends, and it budget-friendly. Think about it, how often do you throw fruits away because they have been set in your fruit tray or refrigerator, never to be eaten? Well… boil them!!

All you have to do is get out a pot; I love a big soup pot and a few fruits, herbs, flowers, oils, and let the magic begin.

Directions

Regardless of which stovetop creation you decide to create, make sure that you use a pot large enough to hold all the ingredients and water. Make sure that you check your pot every hour and refill as needed. Please keep it on a nice simmer. You do not want to boil the ingredients, and it will smell like WHAT DID YOU DO! That is all you have to do.

Citrus Delight

This aroma is light and crisp with a citrus appeal. It’s very refreshing to me, like a Bright Spring Morning.

  • 2 lemon sliced
  • 2 lime sliced
  • 4 slices of grapefruit
  • 4 slices of ginger
  • 1 handful of mint
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 4 cups of water

If you love the smell of warm apples and cinnamon, you will love this. It smells incredible, and it may make you hungry. You have been warned.

This fantastic aroma is so unique it will make you want to sit back and daydream of sunny skies and sandy beaches. Listen to your favorite music and let the smell take you away.

  • 1 cup of pineapple or 2 slices of pineapples
  • 3 strawberries
  • 2 slices of lime

2 slices of lemon

This smell is nothing but what the name says, Strawberry Heaven. It will have your house smelling so good you will have nothing but strawberry dreams.

  • 5-6 strawberries
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 lemon slice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups of water

This is the smell of spring after a grand Spring Cleaning. I have added a cinnamon stick from time to time to give it a spicy, clean aroma. I love this smell when the entire house is clean, and I have aired out the house. It just smells fabulous.

  • 3 lemons
  • 1 bunch of rosemary
  • 2 tbsp vanilla extract

I love this aroma so much. This is hands down my favorite smell of all of these. It smells so calming and relaxing. I would recommend doing this before bed; I want to lounge around after simmering this.

Upholstery Furniture Cleaning

Have you ever cleaned your home and started to see spots on your furniture you NEVER SAW?

I have an easy to use, go to guide on cleaning your furniture. All you need is, determination, patience, elbow grease, and a positive outlook.

You can get more household tips here.

Different Fabrics Call for Different Measures.

Tip: Vacuum your furniture, you would be surprised the stains that come up.

Leather

  • Pigmented – more resistant to water soluble spills and stains
  • Aniline dyed – soft and exceptionally porous to all water-soluble stains.

Vacuum the furniture. If it is pigmented, just wipe and let air dry. Aniline dyed will need professional cleaning.

Fabric

Tip: After vacuuming, I use carpet cleaner, take a white cloth and scrub. Let the carpet cleaner sit for 1 hour, and vacuum.

  • Depending on how deep soiled the stain is depends on the sitting process. I have a 8-year-old and a 15-year-old. It is a mess fest. VACUUM FIRST!!!!
  • Get a cheap vacuum spray and spray the area, rub and scrub with a white cloth. The white cloth isn’t dyed, so you do not worry about the fabric being dyed.
  • Vacuum and if needed repeat.

Be sure to clean under cushions and its best to spray the ENTIRE piece of furniture. You will be amazed how the carpet cleaning will dissolve many stains.

Enjoy!!!!

3 Steps To A Clean House

Do you ever just want an easy fix to keeping your house clean? Believe it or not I have a 3-step guide to a clean house. Just need some time and a little elbow grease. Trust the process, and just start. It may seem overwhelming but with this DIY guide you will be cleaning in no time. Let the family help and make it a family project or make it a challenge.  I guarantee you that the progress will be worthwhile. Just keep at it and use those elbows.

You can look at my Upholstery Furniture Tips, and Scratched Furniture Hacks to help you with your house cleaning needs.

The easiest way to set up the cleaning strategy is into 3 categories:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly

It may seem aggravating, but if you can complete the daily routine breakdown, the weekly and monthly routine breakdown will be a breeze. Just trust the process

Lets Begin.

Daily

  • Wash- and put-up dishes.  Truthfully, I leave MINE in the dishwasher. They clean!!!
  • Wipe off kitchen counters, wipe off range products: including microwave.
  • Make your bed.
  • Take out garbage daily. If you don’t AT LEAST dump all garbage from your other rooms. Including, bathroom, living room, your bedroom, or doing a general trash sweep of the house will be AMAZING.

Weekly

  • Dust furniture, tables, upholstery, and woodwork
  • Windex your window, range appliances, and surface items that can use Windex.
  • Vacuum the carpets, floor, rugs, and upholstery.
  • Change your bedsheets and fluff your pillows
  • Open your windows at least for 15 minutes. It helps to air out the old smells from the week.

Monthly

  • Flip your mattress. I know it says every so many months, but this helps the longevity of the mattress. Flip it monthly and you won’t have those dips. TRUST ME!!
  • Clean your windows. I hate window cleaning, too. Just do what you can and leave the rest!!
  • Clean under your couch couches, the cushions, under the bed, and in the closet.
  • Wipe down your walls. Use a mop if need be. You will be surprised how much dust accumulates.

I know it seems strenuous, but these are failed proof, easy to adapt to cleaning methods.

Enjoy!!!!

Scratched Furniture Hacks

Scratched Furniture Hacks

We all have had our woes with scratched furniture, and I have a few easy DIY helpful tips to help remedy the problem. All you need is a little patience, elbow grease, or good polish to do the trick.

What you need:

Before you start make sure your furniture is clean and dust free. You would be AMAZED at how a quick dusting can help.

  • Deep Scratches

You can use coffee, tea bags, iodine, and shoe polish to soak into the cuts of the wood. Use a cotton swab to penetrate the liquid. Do it 3-4 in a few hour time period.

  • Markers

Find the correct market color to go over the scratch. It may take a few times but the marker will blend in.

Best to use black or brown.

  • Crayons

Melt the crayon first. Crayons have that clunky texture and you NEED it to be smooth. DO NOT heat too long because the crayon will run and may BURN YOU.

Be careful!

  • Lemon and Oil

Make a mixture 1 part each of the lemon and vinegar. Use a cotton ball and a little elbow grease. Rub in small circles and the scratch will disappear.

Best to use on small scratches or small multiple scratches.

Good luck!

DIY Fall Scents for Stovetops

DIY Fall Scents for Stove Tops

Fall is the time of year when I think of apple cider on a hot stove, or baked apple pies fresh out the oven. You can feel it in the breeze as you walk outside, and you can smell the lovely fall aromas in the air.

When I think of fall aromas, these simple household ingredients come to mind. All you need is a pot of water and a stove set to medium low. Keep your eye on the water level every so often. I use a BIG SOUP pot for mine, so I don’t have to run back to the stove too often.

You DO NOT need to have all these on hand. Take your time and experiment with the different herbs and see what concoction you come up with.

As you clean your house for the holidays or want to get into the holiday spirit, I have a few holiday aromas that will bring you into the spirit and have your house smelling like a winter oasis in no time.

Remember to add water ever hour or so. Don’t let the herbs burn.

What you need:

Here are a few easy recipes that you can try. REMEMBER, keep your pot on medium low. If its a small pot LOW. Good luck!
