A Hell of a Week: Venting

Hey yall, it has been a week since my last post, and boy, has it been a doozy.

I bought goodies for our chat. I had a sweet tooth!
Come on and let me hug you.

Before I do my usual vent, let me take a few minutes and see how yall been doing?

If you celebrate July 4th, did you have any special plans? Have yall been taking care of yourselves? Are yall doing okay? It’s okay, to be honest and say no! I don’t always have it together myself.

You see, I’m constantly venting. I’m sending a Big Ole Hug yall way.

Now put your seatbelt on because I’m about to take you for a ride.

First, I caught the swimmer’s ear. It started as a clogged ear, but I washed my head and could feel the water seeping into my ear. Yeap, that’s how the cookie crumbled. A few days later, I had a full-blown swimmer’s ear. Yall it was so painful.

Then as I was trying to cope with the earache from hell, I thought I caught Covid. Before you call me a hypochondriac, what are the symptoms of Covid?

  • Can’t taste
  • YOU FEEL LIKE YOU GOT HIT WITH THE UGLY STICK

I was hitting all the signs, and my ears were clogged.

Now I’m sitting up here going down a timeline of my whereabouts, and now I’m wondering when I went to the park, was I standing in a place I shouldn’t have. Should I have not gotten gas that day? What about the grocery store? Listen, I was thinking about all my life decisions, and I was NERVOUS.

Then, Natlie and the girls were suddenly complaining of headaches and earaches. I asked them if we had Covid? They told me it had to be my allergies, NOT Covid. Well, why I can’t smell or taste anything? Why do I feel like crap? I took a Benadryl, and many of my ailments were my allergies! Yeah, I overestimated the illness.

I cried like a baby. I am not ashamed.

The earache from hell never left. It got worse. The pain went into my jaw, and I couldn’t close my mouth. I will post my Ultimate Earache Remedy,  I’m currently still using it, and I must say it works. Yall my earache took me out. I cried like a baby, and it has been rough. But I’m doing a lot better, and I’m just glad to be back to almost 100 percent.

Natlie and the girls are suffering from allergies, and I have been on mommy duty as well. If yall allergies are causing trouble, please pop a Benadryl. I’m still giving them Dandelion Root Tea and Nettle Leaf, but they also have upset stomachs. It makes me feel like it’s something in the air, water, and food. I don’t know what to do besides keeping the windows shut, keeping them cool, and keeping them hydrated. It’s working but a lousy way to spend the summer.

Oh, guess what, why are we in another HEAT WAVE!! Yall it is so hot. The temperature is 91-93, but the heat index is 101-105. If you are dealing with high temperatures, please drink water. We have to take better care of ourselves. I don’t mean to sound like a sitting hen or be a Nagging Nancy, but I care!

Okay, yall, I just wanted to stop by and give a heads up on my Hell Week. I missed yall, and I just wanted to chat for a bit, as always sending Big Hugs and Warm Smiles.

Home Remedies for Allergies, Hay-fever, and Sinus

I have suffered from allergies all my life. I don’t care what you call it, sinus, hay fever, or allergies, I suffer from it.

It never fails, the first budding of the trees and my eyes start to itch and water, and my throat gets the scratchy dry feeling.  Then in a few days the dreadful headaches, runny nose, or clogged nose on one side, the coughing, itchy ears, and you feel horrible.

I use to be left with taking Benadryl and going to bed. But once I woke up, the intense sinus pressure comes back worse and I’m left taking more Benadryl. No one can live like that.

I took time to find natural home remedies that really helped cope with my allergies and it didn’t stop my life. I wasn’t left with any drowsy side effects and I didn’t have to go to the doctor anymore due to sinus infections. I hope my home remedies can help you, too.

NETTLE LEAF TEA/ CAPSULES

Hands down the best allergy medicine are nettle leaf tea or capsules.  This tea clears all your allergies and sinus issues. Do not drink if you have kidney issues.

I must warn you if you are full of mucus and you drink this tea, you will expel it, quickly.  Yes, you may vomit mucus, but I can guarantee you that you feel better. I give this to my girls and when they have been heavily congested, they have vomited. Do not worry, the tea is cleaning out all the mucus.

This tea is amazing, and before I had kidney issues I drank a cup every day and never had allergies.  If you aren’t a tea drinker, take 600mg capsules daily for a week, and then take 300mg a day after then.

DANDELION ROOT TEA

I love this tea and it is a detox tea. It is great for detoxing your kidneys and liver but I noticed it helped my allergies. I stopped having those pressure headaches, and that itchy throat feeling went away within a few days. Because it is a detox, I drank two cups a day for three days, and then just one cup a week.

VITAMIN C

After suffering from sinus infections, I learned to take Vitamin C tablets, which helped keep my immune system strong.  I even give my girls Vitamin C and they hardly get a cold or suffer from allergies like they use to. Add Vitamin C to your grocery list, and make a habit of getting this into your diet. You can take 500mg a day.

HALLS COUGH DROPS  and TeaHalls cough drops are a miracle. When I get that itchy cough, or my throat feels like it is swelling from all the pollen, I pop one in and I instantly feel better.  But, I started experimenting and realized the cough drops can be made into a tea.  Drink this in the morning or before bed, it helps you breath better, and your head isn’t as foggy.

Halls Cough Drop Tea

All you do is add water and cough drops to the pot and bring them to a low boil. Stir to make sure cough drops have diluted. Pour into a cup, add a lemon slice and enjoy.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential oils aren’t just for the wonderful aromas that they have, but the healing properties that they possess. Here are a few essential oils that help you with your allergy issues.

  • Peppermint/ Spearmint- You can choose either one mint but they both do the same, they help you breath better and overall feel better with the sinus pressure.
  • Eucalyptus – This is amazing for congestion. I use this in the bathroom during baths and showers.
  • Lavender -Use at night for a calming effect. It helps my headaches and sinus pressure
  • Lemon –  Use in the morning, it makes me feel energized, and I don’t have the tightness around my eyes.

In your oil burner, add water and a few drops of your choice of essential oil and let the magic happen. I have mixed and matched my essential oils to get maximum benefits. Try these combinations:

  • Lemon / Peppermint/ Lavender – After Work or Busy Day Relief
  • Lemon/ Eucalyptus -Morning Relief
  • Lavender / Eucalyptus – Nighttime Relief
  • Eucalyptus / Peppermint – Congestion Relief

Make sure to add water and only a few drops of the essential oil, a little will do a lot.

Household hacks

No one wants to hear this but you have to do it. Household chores… yeap there is no way out but to CONQUER! The main goal is to keep the dust and pollen down, and a cool environment.

  • Change filters often invest in hypoallergenic filters
  • Keep bedroom blinds and windows shut.
  • Keep your bedroom cool.
  • Vacuum every day, or at least your bedroom.
  • Shower before bed to get off any dust or pollen that may be on you.
  • Take shoes off soon as you come in, pollen is on the bottoms of your shoes.
  • Dust often, especially in your bedroom, dust loves to hang around the bed, under the bed, and headboard.
  • In your car, cut the A/C on and open your windows, it helps filter the dust and pollen. After 5 minutes roll the windows up.
Dietary Changes

Don’t get mad at me but I have to take a minute to talk about this. I’m not saying go on a diet, but I do need to talk about eating greasy food and your dairy consumption. Did you know that plays a contributing factor to your allergies? Don’t roll your eyes, you want to feel better don’t you? Well ok then, read below for a few helpful tips, and stop pouting!

  • Stop smoking cigarettes. The free radicals make you congested, have headaches, and overall feel yucky. If you can’t stop cut back, and tell me if you don’t see a BIG DIFFERENCE.
  • Cut the dairy. Might be the cause of the itchy eyes and your runny nose.
  • Cut the greasy, fried foods.  Might be the cause of the stuffy nose and feeling like you can’t breathe; wheezing
  • Increase your fluids, drink water. It helps expel the mucus.
  • Increase your fruits and veggies. Helps eliminate the mucus in your body, and alleviates allergy symptoms.

I hope these home remedies have been helpful for you and your family. Enjoy!
