We all have had that moment where we need IMMEDIATE toothache relief. I have a few inexpensive home remedies that are guaranteed to work. The best part, the majority of the ingredients are in your kitchen pantry.
Vanilla Extract
Take a cotton ball and apply the vanilla extract. It will bring temporary relief but do not leave it on too long. Vanilla extract will make your gums tender.
Warm Saltwater Rinse
Get a glass and add 1 Tablespoon of sea salt and Ifill it with warm water. Stir and gargle. The saltwater helps clean out any debris and helps with any infusions and cuts.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is incredible for cavities, abscesses, and all mouth pain. I use this when an issue may arise, and it’s kid friendly. Just get a teaspoon full and put it in your mouth. Let it go to the problem area. DO NOT SWALLOW!! After 15 minutes, spit out the coconut oil. You will see it pulls out debris. For extra help, get a cotton swab and, put some of the oil on it, place it over the problem area. Do this as much as needed. You can also brush with coconut oil; it helps with tooth pain.
Over The Counter Medicine
Sometimes the pain is so bad you need something. If you can, take Ibuprofen. It helps with inflammation, and if you have mouth pain, you will have inflammation. Alter between Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen. It helps with the pain. My mom taught me that trick.
Hot and Cold Compress
These compresses will help alleviate your mouth pain depending on what’s going on. You can use tea bags that can be frozen; they are compact and a perfect fit for your mouth. For my hot compresses, I boil water and put my washcloth in for 2 minutes. Drop it in a big Ziplock bag, and cover it with a towel.
Clove Oil
Clove oil has a numbing agent that will bring instant relief. You have to use cotton balls with this. Be careful not to get on your tongue and lips; they will also become numb.
Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse
Use equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide. Rinse your mouth out with the solution, and do not swallow. Rinse with regular water after.
Garlic
Garlic has antibacterial properties that are useful in many ailments. You can crush or chew the garlic. Make sure to get in on the affected area.
